New DOOM 64 levels are going to be included with the upcoming port of this classic Nintendo 64 game that's set to launch alongside DOOM Eternal.

Speaking to US Gamer, several developers from Nightdive Studios detailed the process behind turning a Nintendo 64 exclusive into a port for modern systems (Nintendo Switch included). The game will look and feel a lot like the original, but there have been several improvements made along the way.

As an example, Lost Souls could get straight-up yeeted out of the map due to a bug. That and many other things have been fixed, and there have been several improvements as well. The stronger Nintendo 64 hardware of the time (at least, stronger when compared to the kind of PCs that DOOM originally released on) meant that they could pretty things up a bit, and the much better modern hardware allows them to step things up another notch.

Most interesting of all, however, is the revelation that there will be new DOOM 64 levels in the game.

What Will We See in the New DOOM 64 Levels?

The epic conclusion of DOOM 64 has you fighting against a particularly tough creature. Mild spoilers ahead: that happens to be the Mother Demon in this sequel to DOOM 2. These new levels are going to see you facing off against her very upset sister.

"On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes," explained Senior Developer James Haley. "The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy."

DOOM 64 had its fair share of trouble getting out into the world. DOOM Eternal (and by relation, DOOM 64) were part of a batch of recent AAA games that ended up having their release dates pushed back.

You'll be able to experience this new content when DOOM 64 launches on March 20, 2020, alongside DOOM: Eternal and... Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For now, you can add DOOM 64 to your wishlist on Steam.

What do you hope to see in this new DOOM 64 chapter? Did you ever get to play the original game? Let us know in the comments below!
