So you’ve just spent hours trudging through a castle filled with more people who want you dead than is reasonable for pretty much anyone. Now, you’ve run up against the brick wall that is Godrick the Grafted, and you’re wondering how you’re supposed to actually get any further. Well, we’re gonna help you out by teaching you how to beat Godrick the Grafted in Elden Ring

Sort of feels bad letting Nepheli take this one for the team but when you've been stuck on the same boss for 4 hours you'll do anything to get out of it.

If you want to have an easier time with things, there are one or two steps you can take to bring the difficulty down a few notches. First up, you may want to upgrade your summonings if you haven’t already, as they can be a great distraction for the boss to focus on while you’re wailing on his legs.

If you’re into summoning for the fight you’ll have to go and unlock the correct summon. From the cell bonfire, run back out into the main open courtyard area, and run as fast as you can back towards the barricade at the start just past the evil birds, trolls, and partially mummified humans. To your left, there should be a side room near the barricade.

Exhaust the dialogue with the character you find inside, and they’ll become summonable for you in the fight. Even better, they’ll eventually show up at the roundtable keep if you actually summon them and eventually beat the boss.

This fight is going to be one hell of a doozy. First up, Godrick has pretty high defense, so he’s going to take a lot of beating. The easiest strat here is going to be to use a weapon with bleeding, as this can take significant chunks off of his health bar. Other than that, focus on learning his moves so you can dodge them when you need to. Most of his attacks have really weird wind-ups with odd timing, so it's vital for you to learn how to spot each attack and combo and get the timing down.

The key to this fight is the terrain. At the far end of the arena from where you spawn, you should see a cliff on the left side. You can position yourself on this cliff so that Godrick can’t hurt you, but you can hurt him. Just nip in for an attack, then run out of his range again. Once his health hits 50% he’ll go into a second stage and gain some fire attacks, so maybe think about fire protection if you’re dying too quickly. Watch out, in particular, for his dragon breath attack which can cover most of the field if you’re not protected by something.

If you’re using any means necessary, you can use the summon to draw aggro for you and just run off whenever it looks like Godrick is fed up with you. Towards the second stage, your NPC phantom is going to die. At that stage, you can rely on your ash summons if you still want someone pulling attention away from you. Just focus on getting your damage in and building that bleed damage up.

Using this cliff is a great way to stay safe while giving you a few moments to get decent damage in.

As with any ranged boss fight, you need to be well prepared. Since Godrick takes good damage from bleeding, some bleeding arrows might work wonders, but they could be hard to source. Make sure you have both of your arrow slots filled with the most powerful arrows that you have and make sure you have full stacks of both if you want to win this one. For magic users, just ensure at least 2 or 3 Ceruelian flasks are in your pocket before the fight starts and you should be okay, assuming that your weapon is upgraded enough.

Godrick is a super mobile opponent, especially in his second stage, so ranged characters might have more trouble here than in previous battles. Keep giving the boss the run around using the cliff we mentioned above. You can stand on top of it as he comes up the hill towards you, let off your most powerful ranged attack, then drop to the ground below as his attack animation is winding up. This strat should leave you safe from both his stage 1 and 2 attacks, but learning the timing is hugely important. One wrong move will have you launched across the arena or boiled to death in lava.

Another way to go about this is to try and get him caught on environmental fixtures. There are a few parts of the environment that are indestructible which Godrick has a tendency to get stuck on a bit. While he’s untangling himself you can lay into him with your bow or spells, just retain some stamina for dodging out of the way when he works himself free again. The only thing about this second method to watch out for is that it has limited success in the 2nd stage as he becomes more liable to roll around like a flailing toddler at this stage.
