Were you one of the lucky few who made a PS5 Amazon pre-order? If so, there's some bad news — it might be delayed due to the crazy levels of demand for the new console.

Yesterday was the big day for PlayStation 5: Sony launched the conference where it announced the price for its next-gen console as $499 for the disc edition and $399 for the digital edition. They also revealed some more of the launch titles alongside their pricing, some of which are going to cost $10 more than previous generations.

Unfortunately, it seems that Sony dropped the ball on the pre-order situation — it was absolute chaos and a lot of people weren't able to secure a pre-order for this next-gen console. Now it seems that things are getting worse: Amazon has warned its customers that they might not get their PlayStation 5 on time.

What's Going On with the PS5 Amazon Pre-Order?

An e-mail was sent out to people with an active PS5 Amazon pre-order earlier today. Several people in the gaming industry — most notably Geoff Keighley, Colin Moriarty, and @Wario64 — have all independently reported on the potential delay.

Here's what the PS5 Amazon pre-order e-mail says:

Hello,

We're contacting you about your order of [a PlayStation 5] to let you know in advance that you may not receive this item on the day it is released due to high demand. We'll make every effort to get the item to you as soon as possible once released.

You can track the latest shipment status off your order under Your Orders on Amazon.com. Once there, you can make changes to unshipped orders, cancel unshipped items, track shipped packages, and much more.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
Amazon.com

The e-mail lays things out pretty plainly. No specific reasoning for the delay has been given.

Unfortunately, delays like this have grown increasingly common with online retailers — even Amazon has had its ability to ship products in a timely fashion affected as part of the 2020 pandemic. We may see similar problems with the Xbox Series X when pre-orders for that console open on September 22, 2020.

On the upside, no other retailers have announced similar delays as of yet. Amazon is certainly one of the biggest, though, and there are sure to be quite a few customers who aren't happy about this development.

Are you upset to see the Amazon PS5 pre-order potentially delayed? Do you think we'll see a similar scenario develop with the Xbox Series X? Let us know in the comments below!
