A brand new behind-the-scenes video for Wasteland 3 has dropped and it's got some interesting new details in it. Rather than talk about the graphics or detail some crazy new guns, the developers are taking the time to talk about the choices you can make — and the consequences that will follow.

Take a look at the Wasteland 3 Choice and Consequences Behind The Scenes video from IGN:

This upcoming third game in the Wasteland franchise is firmly in the CRPG genre and the developers are quite keen on embracing many of the things that make the genre so great. One of these notions is the idea that you can kill pretty much anyone in the game and things will keep on going.

"I think the most difficult part about designing for the Wasteland universe is the player choice that they have," stated inXile Studio Head Brian Fargo. "We let them do so many things, but we still need to keep a cohesive story together. So, simple things, which is you can pull out your gun and shoot anybody you want in the game. Well, what happens with that? There are quest givers. Well, you've killed a quest giver — now how are you going to get to the next thing? And then, how is the world gonna respond to what you've done? Because the more edge cases we put in, that we write for, that you try, the more immersive and the greater the payoff."

When is the Wasteland 3 release date?

According to the devs, the world of this game will be paying close attention to every little thing you do and you'll ideally see that reflected through ripple effects. While Fargo concedes that he doesn't know every single little thing about the game, he also added that he and other developers are playing through it several times a week.

Things are shaping up nicely for this Wasteland sequel and you won't have to wait too long to get it, either — the Wasteland 3 release date is August 28, 2020. You can pre-purchase it on Steam or via the game's official website for $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
