There's a bit of bad news for fans of CD Projekt Red games -- The Witcher 3 next-gen release date and the Cyberpunk 2077 have both been delayed to 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version of The Witcher 3 was announced a little over a year ago and subsequently confirmed for a late 2021 release date. As for Cyberpunk 2077, the game had been removed from the PlayStation Store due to problems and only made its return to the platform back in June 2021; a specific release date for the next-gen version had not yet been announced.
Quite a few fans were hoping to play both of these games before the end of 2021. Unfortunately, a new investor report notes that native next-gen versions of these blockbuster titles won't be arriving until next year.
When is The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Release Date on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
The Witcher 3 next-gen release date will be sometime in the second quarter of 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; that means that it's expected to arrive sometime between April 1, 2022-June 30, 2022.
The news of The Witcher 3 next-gen delay was revealed in a regulatory announcement from CD Projekt Red that was shared by gaming news aggregator Nibel on Twitter.
When is the Cyberpunk 2077 Next-Gen Release Date on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Fortunately, the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen release date will be in the first quarter of 2022 -- that means that you'll be able to play it sometime between January 1, 2022, and March 31, 2022.
"The Management Board of the Company hereby announces that, based on recommendations supplied by persons supervising development, it has decided to allocate additional time to both projects," read the announcement. "The Company currently intends to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the first quarter of 2022, and the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the second quarter of 2022."
Hopefully, it looks like this delay is an indication that CD Projekt Red has learned from its mistakes of rushing out Cyberpunk 2077 last year. You can buy The Witcher 3 or buy Cyberpunk 2077 for PC and consoles via their respective websites.
