Chinese gaming conglomerate Tencent has snapped up another studio -- earlier today, it announced that it had acquired Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios.
Things have been a bit shaky for Back 4 Blood. The game ended up getting delayed several months to the fourth quarter of 2021. Since it launched, its developer Turtle Rock Studios laid out an ambitious roadmap for the future of the game, finally delivering on some of these promises with its most recent update. Now, it's just been announced that Turtle Rock Studios is under new management -- Tencent has acquired the company.
What Will Happen to Back 4 Blood Developer Turtle Rock Studios?
If you're concerned about the future of Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios, it looks like there isn't much to worry about -- it seems that Tencent is happy to stay hands-off and simply take their cut of the profits (at least for now).
"We are huge fans of Turtle Rock’s games, especially their amazing approach to creating cooperative online games," Tencent Chief Strategy Officer Eddie Chan said in a press release. "We can’t wait to see what comes next, and we’re excited to be part of their future."
Turtle Rock Studios, for its part, seems equally optimistic about its future as a Tencent subsidiary.
"We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios," President and General Manager of Turtle Rock Studios Steve Goldstein stated. "Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming, and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit."
There's no telling what the future may hold for this studio, but I'm sure that their next couple of years will be dedicated to making the most out of Back 4 Blood.
