Stalker 2 PS5 version won't be launching anytime soon according to a recent interview with GSC Game World, although the developer of this upcoming game hasn't ruled it out for the future.

Stalker 2 is the highly-anticipated sequel to 2007's Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. The games are loosely based on the 1972 Russian sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic which was later turned into the 1979 film Stalker. Gamers are placed in "The Zone", an irradiated area surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant where strange, otherworldly phenomena have begun to manifest. This has led to the rise of "Stalkers" — brave souls who venture into the Zone in search of valuable physics-defying artifacts and glory.

A true sequel to the first Stalker game has been in the works for over a decade. The first attempt to produce a sequel ultimately failed, and GSC Game World finally started up production again in 2018. We now know that Stalker 2 is on the way for PC and Xbox. PS5 players, unfortunately, are going to have to wait a while — and that's if a PlayStation 5 version comes out at all.

Why There Won't Be a Stalker 2 PS5 Version

There won't be a Stalker 2 PS5 version anytime soon for one simple reason: GSC Game World is focusing its console efforts on the Xbox Series X|S version of the game. (Of course, this game will also be launching on PC.)

"No plans for now," GSC Game World replied when asked about a PS5 version of the game in an interview with GamingBolt (via Windows Central). "We negotiated the possibilities with Microsoft and saw several good opportunities for the brand — including Game Pass."

"We’re concentrating on the Xbox Series X/S version," GSC Game World added.

That might sound like a downer for PS5 gamers, but note that GSC Game World worded its answer very carefully — there are no plans for now. It certainly has left the door open for a PS5 version of the game in the future. The one thing we can't say for certain, however, is exactly how long PlayStation owners will have to wait.
