Believe it or not, there's a secret DOOM Eternal pistol that you can unlock in the game. You'd think that a hidden weapon would be something insanely powerful, but it seems that the Slayer likes to roll another way.

Check out the pistol in action:

As Rock Paper Shotgun highlightsDOOM Eternal has a fully-functional pistol buried in the game's code. Although the model looks finished and the gun definitely works, the developers reportedly scrapped it because it didn't mesh well with the gameplay. (I like to think that they thought it was too puny for the almighty Slayer.)

The demon-slaying sidearm appears to have a single shot and burst fire mode, letting you rip and tear with a little more precision. Still, it seems woefully underpowered when compared with the rest of our hero's arsenal.

While the modern DOOM games tend to eschew the pistol, it was the very first weapon that you got in the original first-person shooter adventures. It looks a little bit like the gun on the cover of the first game, although it has several noticable differences.

How Do You Unlock the Secret DOOM Eternal Pistol?

Let's start with the bad news: if you're playing DOOM Eternal on a console, you're not going to be able to get this gun. It requires the use of the developer console, and that's something you can only do on PC.

To unlock this awfully underpowered weapon, you're going to need to start by installing Cheat Engine. Do bear in mind, however, that some games might not like this running in the background — don't leave it running when you're playing multiplayer in any game!

Once you have Cheat Engine installed, it's simply a matter of downloading the CT file in this forum post and running it like you would any other cheat. From there, you should have the secret DOOM Eternal pistol available in your arsenal.

What do you think of the cut pistol in DOOM Eternal? Do you think the developers should have left it in the game? Let us know in the comments below!
