Rare has introduced Sea of Thieves Mysteries, a challenge that tasks the community to use in-game clues and ARG elements to solve a puzzle.

Sea of Thieves has just launched its sixth season a couple of months ago, continuing the seasonal model it introduced in late 2020. The fine folks at Rare have focused on adding new content and improving quality-of-life features for players, but a new feature revealed today will be a serious game-changer: you'll soon be exploring the first community-wide mystery.

How Sea of Thieves Mysteries Work

Sea of Thieves Mysteries are a lot more than an epic in-game quest -- you'll also have to pay attention to the game's social media channels and update videos as highlighted on Reddit.

"You will have to find clues from any number of different spaces and places, whether that be in-game or on social channels," explained Sea of Thieves Head of Community Christina McGrath. " Some of these clues are gonna be quite obscure and very, well... hidden -- some might say buried -- and some of them are going to be super obvious, like in the backs of videos like this."

The first Sea of Thieves Mystery is going to be a murder mystery of sorts and, well... that's about all we know. The community as a whole will have to work together to uncover clues within the game and within official media and elsewhere, effectively making this a mix of an in-game puzzle and an ARG.

You'll be able to start unraveling the first Sea of Thieves Mystery later this week; you can learn more about how Sea of Thieves Mysteries work in today's announcement. Of course, you'll need a copy of the game to dive into this adventure -- you can buy Sea of Thieves for PC and Xbox at the price of $39.99 or your regional equivalent.
