Rivals of Aether 2 has been revealed as the sequel to the indie platform fighter, and that's not all -- a turn-based dungeon crawler spinoff called Dungeons of Aether has also been revealed.
If you're a fan of platform fighters, you should probably check out Rivals of Aether. Its developer Aether Studios (founded by Dan Fornace) is taking the time to add in rollback netcode, just like Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle and DNF Duel. That's not all they've been working on, though -- a sequel and a spinoff have been announced today.
Rivals of Aether 2 Promises to Be a Next Generation Platform Fighter
The first major announcement today is Rivals of Aether 2, a sequel to the popular indie platform fighter Rivals of Aether 2. As you can tell by the above trailer, this game is getting a serious graphical glow-up when compared to the 2017 indie fighting game. The transition from pixel graphics to full 3D is a huge leap in fidelity.
The trailer wasn't just a cinematic experience, either. We got to see Zetterburn, Wrastor, and Ranno duke it out in combat. That effectively serves as a confirmation that these three characters will be on the roster, though we don't yet know if the others will be arriving, too.

While a sequel to Rivals of Aether isn't all that surprising, Aether Studios still had a surprise up his sleeve -- a spinoff called Dungeons of Aether is also in the works and will be launching before the end of the year.
Dungeons of Aether is a turn-based dungeon crawler set in the Rivals of Aether universe and featuring four new heroes. This project isn't solely being worked on by Dan Fornace, though -- he's co-developing it with Ghost Croquet developer ampersandbear who also worked with Aether Studios on Rivals of Aether.
