Update 2 August 13

Rockstar Games has issued a statement regarding their latest patch for Red Dead Online:

An update to Red Dead Online intended to provide security improvements and address connection errors unintentionally introduced a range of issues including connection problems, low animal spawn counts, difficulty pitching Camps, entering Moonshine shacks as well as others on PS4 and Xbox One. We have reverted back to the previous version on those platforms, initially launched on July 28. This should address these recent issues and restore stability - meanwhile we will continue to work to eliminate any remaining issues through future updates.

So there you have it. Red Dead Online has been reverted to its July 28 patch and they will continue working on the latest patch that broke large portions of the game. They have also updated their support page. Stay tuned for more information.

Update:

Rockstar has acknowledged the issue, and added a new page to their support website, as well as issuing a tweet on the matter.

We are aware some players may currently be experiencing a range of issues as a result of yesterday's RDR2 Title Update. We are currently developing fixes to address these and will share more information as it is available.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update it as necessary.

Original story below:

Red Dead Online has released its latest patch today, which was fairly substantial and added some new content for players to sink their teeth into. Instead of that, the players received what could be best described as a broken game.

For those who want a quick TLDR: the game got Raptured. There's apparently no animals, few to no NPC's, and players are left to explore a post-Rapture Red Dead Online world, which is pretty interesting now that I think about it, but definitely not what players were expecting.

It's not a case of asking what has been broken, but asking what is actually working at the moment. It's that bad.

Don't believe me? Here's another one for good measure:

So the question is this: what on Earth happened? To go from a polished experience enjoyed by millions to what looks like a Alpha release is shocking, especially when you consider that this is Rockstar, the studio famous for working on games for 5-8 years on titles in order to get them perfect. That they would go around and release an update like this almost defies comprehension. Something catastrophic occurred, and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

There are some trying to help, with a Reddit post on the Subreddit Red Dead Online listing the Known Bugs & Issues of the title. This includes basic things such as save data being corrupted on the PS4, Alt + tabbing causing a crash to desktop on PC's, the Bounty Board can no longer be interacted with, animals aren't spawning, fast traveling crashes the game... it just goes on and on for basic features that need to work.

We have emailed Rockstar regarding this patch, and will update this post the moment we receive word from them. Until then, stay tuned to TechRaptor for more details.

What do you think of this patch? Do you think Rockstar was sending a message by getting rid of all the NPCs, aside from the shop keepers? Does this surprise you? Let us know in the comments!
