With the re-release of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, publisher THQ Nordic also dropped the news that a brand-new expansion exclusive to this version of the RPG would launch. Called Fatesworn, players can expect to see its release at some point soon.
Today the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning developer updated fans on the status of the Fatesworn expansion. According to the announcement, the team is "in the last stages of polishing and plan to wrap it up in the next couple of weeks." While there is still no solid release date for Fatesworn, there is a possibility this content will release this year or even early next year.
The developers explained that creating Fatesworn took more work than was expected; after all, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is nearly a decade old at this point. In order to create components vital to a new expansion -- things like dungeons, items, and more -- the team rebuilt the "content creation pipeline" from scratch, hence the longer development period.
What is Kingdom of Amalur: Re-Reckoning's Fatesworn Expansion?
Because Re-Reckoning is a re-release for the original title, one might expect to find all the same content from the original within this remaster. This time, the developers went an extra step further to create entirely new content just for the re-release. This is where Fatesworn comes in, which is not just a DLC but described as an "expansion." Moreover, this status update on the development of the expansion brought us more information on what players can expect.
The central theme surrounding Fatesworm has to do with the Chaos Realm, with rifts opening up across the world and allowing for the monsters within the Realm to run amok. The Chaos Realm is this twisted, corrupted version of Amalur, and anyone who ventures into the rifts become lost and, even worse, victims to the beasts waiting inside. It's up to the player to save Amalur in this canonical entry to the main story.
Again, while there isn't a firm release date yet, we can expect an announcement and perhaps even release very soon as development for Fatesworn winds to a close. It was previously announced to release in 2021, and it will either be late in the year, or possibly early next year.
