A new "Shared Unlocks" feature has been announced for Don't Starve Together that will let you share your unlocked content across platforms -- except for PlayStation.
Don't Starve Together is the multiplayer version of the Tim Burton-esque survival game created by Klei Entertainment. Aside from the fair amount of content it had planned for 2021, it also announced a somewhat surprising crossover with Terraria that launched late last year. Now, Klei has revealed plans for a new system that will let you share all of the content you've unlocked on multiple platforms.
How Don't Starve Together Shared Unlocks Will Work
As with most games, unlocking something in Don't Starve Together on one platform won't carry over to another platform. The new Shared Unlocks feature aims to change that.
If you're wondering how this will all work, it's fairly straightforward -- anything you unlock in the game will be granted to your Klei account. Log into the game on another platform with your Klei account and you should immediately have access to all of the unlocks there, too. All platforms will share the same drop pool, so you won't be able to double-dip or anything like that. Nice and simple.
The only bit that's not so simple, however, is getting Sony on board -- apparently, Klei has been hitting some roadblocks with getting the okay for PlayStation to participate in this program.
"We're trying, but unfortunately, the requirements to get this on to Playstation are more than a studio our size can handle for such a service," read today's announcement.
"We have been preparing for this for a long time and now that we have several platforms ready to participate, we decided to move forward. We understand that this is going to be very disappointing for some players and we want you to know that if/when we can make this happen for you, we will implement it as soon as we possibly can."
Klei is still working on this new feature for Don't Starve Together and expects it to launch around the same time that the game launches on Nintendo Switch -- April 12, 2022. There's still tons of fun (and terror) to be had in the game right now, though -- you can buy Don't Starve Together for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $14.99 or your regional equivalent.
