Firaxis has announced that Civilization VI is getting a season pass. It's called the New Frontier Pass and it'll bring with it six DLC packs over the next year or so.
This comes via an official Steam announcement from Firaxis. The devs describe the New Frontier Pass as "an exciting new series" of content that will expand Civ VI with new civ options, new leaders, and a variety of new gameplay. Content will be released on a bi-monthly basis. The first pack launches on May 21st and the final one is coming in March next year. You can check out the trailer for the New Frontier Pass right here:
Here's what you're getting if you pick up the New Frontier Pass, courtesy of Civilization VI's Steam hub:
- Pack #1: Maya & Gran Colombia Pack. Adds two new civilizations and leaders, one new game mode, new City-States, Resources, and Natural Wonders. Available May 2020.
- Pack #2: Ethiopia Pack. Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode, one new District and two new Buildings. Available July 2020.
- Pack #3: Adds two new civilizations and leaders, one new game mode, new World Wonders, and one new map. Available September 2020.
- Pack #4: Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode, new City-States, and numerous new Great People. Available November 2020.
- Pack #5: Adds one new civilization and two new leaders, one new game mode, a new District, and two new Buildings. Available January 2021.
- Pack #6: Adds one new civilization and leader, one new game mode, new World Wonders, and one new map. Available March 2021.
The new game mode in pack #1 requires the Gathering Storm expansion to play. Pack #2's new game mode needs either Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm, while the new leader in pack #5 requires Rise and Fall. If you're looking to get the season pass, it's probably best to have the base Civilization VI game plus both of its major expansions installed. It doesn't look like you'll get the most out of the new content otherwise. There's also some free stuff on the way for everyone regardless of whether you buy the pass or not. Finally, there are two new leader Persona Packs coming with the launch of the New Frontier Pass' pack #2. "Rough Rider Teddy" sees the USA's Teddy Roosevelt becoming a paragon of peace, while "Magnificence Catherine" is a new take on Catherine the Great based around Culture and Tourism. Both Persona Packs come with new leader models and backgrounds, new bonuses, and an updated agenda. You won't get these if you don't buy Civilization VI's New Frontier Pass.
You can pick up Civilization VI right now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The first content pack in the New Frontier Pass is coming on May 21st.
