Lords of the Fallen publisher CI Games has announced another round of layoffs, with 30 more employees being let go from the company as part of a restructuring effort that started in January.

According a CI Games report (which was shared with GamesIndustry.biz), this latest layoff round represents a "final, targeted round of redundancies" and is mainly targeted at CI Games' production teams.

This means that Hexworks, the internal CI Games development team that made Lords of the Fallen, is being left intact, which makes sense given that it racked up over a million sales within just ten days.

Lords of the Fallen's dev team is apparently safe from CI Games' latest layoff round.

In fact, CI Games' report says that Hexworks is currently hard at work on what's currently codenamed Project 3, a new action RPG, although whether it's a sequel to Lords of the Fallen remains to be seen.

Project Survive, another CI Games title being worked on by Hexworks' fellow internal studio Underdog, is also still trundling along nicely; GI.biz says that the studio has been "given an extended period" to finish a vertical slice before full production begins.

Today's round of layoffs represents what CI Games' report suggests will be the last redundancies to be implemented as part of the publisher's recent restructuring effort, which it embarked on in earnest in January.

That restructuring effort may come as a surprise to some given that CI Games recently reported record revenue, with the company bringing in more than $60 million during the 2023 fiscal year, largely owing to the aforementioned success of Lords of the Fallen.

CI Games' layoffs may come as a surprise given Lords of the Fallen's success.

We'll have to wait and see what Hexworks and its parent company come up with next. Presumably, given Lords of the Fallen's success, we will be seeing a sequel, but we may have to wait some time for it.

In the meantime, you can grab Lords of the Fallen on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can take a look at my review here to see how it stacks up against the mountains of other Soulslikes vying for your time.
