Nintendo has revealed the Bayonetta 3 release date. The witchy character action game is launching for Nintendo Switch later this year, and it looks like exactly what you're expecting: more over-the-top Bayonetta-brand excitement and fun.

When is the Bayonetta 3 release date?

Platinum Games told us it wanted to show Bayonetta 3 off back in September last year, and now, it looks like the studio is finally getting the chance to do so. Clear your schedule for the autumn, because the Bayonetta 3 release date is October 28th. We knew the game would be launching sometime this year, but knowing that there's no delay, and that we now have a more specific date, is comforting. To accompany the release date announcement, Nintendo also released a brand new trailer for the game, which showcases Bayonetta's stylish action stunts and some of the game's typically bonkers story. You can check that trailer out right here.

What can we expect from Bayonetta 3?

This latest Bayonetta installment takes everyone's favorite witch to locations like Tokyo, the mountains of China, and plenty of other places around the globe in order to battle Homunculi, manmade bioweapons that have somehow ended up on Bayonetta's bad side (a place where you never want to be). Naturally, this being a Bayonetta game, you can expect a brand new outfit, outrageous hairstyles, and more new combos and over-the-top action moments than you can shake your twin pistols at.

Bayonetta battling an enemy in Bayonetta 3
Bayonetta 3 promises even more ridiculously over-the-top action than its predecessors.

The new Demon Masquerade ability also allows Bayonetta to channel demons that are linked to her weapons, introducing new options and elements in combat. What's more, Bayonetta 3 introduces a new playable companion by the name of Viola, who has more than a hint of Devil May Cry about her; she fights with a sword and has a demonic companion. Perhaps most tantalizingly, though, a Bayonetta 3 press release promises the ability to "meet a veritable coven of Bayonetta's", suggesting that you'll be teaming up with multiple versions of yourself to battle your opponents. The world can barely handle one Bayonetta, let alone an army of them.

Bayonetta 3 lands on Nintendo Switch on October 28th. You can pre-order the game right now via the Nintendo eShop if you want. A lavish Trinity Masquerade Edition of the game will also be available at launch, bundling in a lush 200-page art book and three reversible game cases. Naturally, that also means Bayonetta (the 2009 original which was ported to Switch in 2018) will be getting a physical release on Switch; it'll be arriving on September 30th in limited quantities, so be sure to keep an eye out for that if you want to complete your physical collection.
