For almost four years, the lovely city and empire-building game Anno 1800 has been confined to PC gaming, but that's going to change soon as Ubisoft announced.
The game will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (which marketing around the world stubbornly still calls "next-generation" consoles, for some reason) on March 16, 2023.
Pre-orders are already open, and you can either grab the standard edition that includes the game and its "biggest updates" for $40, or you can opt for the Deluxe version that costs ten bucks more and three cosmetic DLC, the Pedestrian Zone, the Amusements Pack, and Vibrant Cities,
If you pre-order the game or get it by April 16, you'll also receive the Imperial and the Console Founder packs which come with extra cosmetics and a digital artbook and soundtrack.
The console version comes with a fully redesigned UI optimized for controllers, so players on consoles can enjoy the game that was originally designed to be controlled with keyboard and mouse.
Below you can check out the reveal trailer and another video with commentary from the developers.
The press release that shared the announcement also included a comment by executive producer Stéphane Jankowski at Ubisoft Mainz.
“Anno 1800 is a great success story for the studio and the 25-year-old Anno brand. The popularity and the success of the game on PC gave us the opportunity to develop a console version of the game, thanks to the power of the next generation of consoles. Bringing our most successful Anno game on consoles is a real chance for us to let new players discover our award-winning game for the first time and join our amazing community.”
We also hear that the PC version of the game (of which you can read our review) shipped over 2.5 million copies, which is definitely a flattering number for this kind of game.
