Koei Tecmo has released its financial statement for the fiscal year ending in March 2024, and it contains an interesting nugget of information regarding recently-released open-world action RPG Rise of the Ronin.

According to the studio's reportRise of the Ronin's sales are "surpassing" those of the Nioh series, which Koei Tecmo says has led to a "high valuation" for the game by players.

Later in the report, Koei Tecmo clarifies that Ronin's "sales start" has gone beyond that of Nioh and Nioh 2, likely meaning that Ronin has performed better than either of the aforementioned games did in their first month or so on release.

Nioh 2 has a new contender in terms of sales, Koei Tecmo has revealed.

Koei Tecmo's report also points out that Rise of the Ronin's Metacritic score sits at "generally favorable", although our own reviewer Isaac was less impressed with the game than many.

Despite this positive news regarding Rise of the Ronin, it looks like Koei Tecmo's sales in general aren't doing quite as well as the studio might hope, at least in the PC and console department.

Overall, sales have increased "due to new smartphone titles", Koei Tecmo says; in fact, online and mobile sales were "the highest ever", according to the report.

Koei Tecmo makes particular reference to the Japan-only Pokemon Go-style game Nobunaga's Ambition: Shutsujin, which is the first venture into the genre for the publisher, as well as Atelier Resleriana, which was released earlier this year in the West.

Koei Tecmo says its mobile lineup has performed well this year.

While sales have improved over last year, they have fallen short of targets, due to "sales of new console and mobile titles" not reaching their respective targets, as well as higher-than-expected outsourcing costs.

Looking to the future, Koei Tecmo is currently working on a Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 remake, which is heading to PC, PlayStation, and Switch sometime this year.

Additionally, the studio says "multiple new titles" are being worked on, although Koei Tecmo doesn't provide any details about what these games might be. We'll have to wait and see what lies in the company's future.
