Cloud Imperium Games, developer of Star Citizen, has announced the official dates and location of its annual offline event, CitizenCon 2954.
The event will be hosted at the Manchester Central venue in Manchester, UK, on October 19 and 20, 2024. If you're wondering, 2954 is the date in Star Citizen's in-game calendar, as the game is set 930 years in the future and its timeline progresses in parallel with the real world.
More information will be shared at a later date, but the developer is teasing that this will be the "best one yet." This matches with fan expectations that the developer may finally announce the release date of Star Citizen's single-player campaign Squadron 42. We heard that it's feature complete at last year's CitizenCon.
The developer also revealed a fully redesigned launcher, which you can see above. On top of that, it teased something related to the massive Idris Frigate coming tomorrow. Most likely, it's going to be the appearance of the Frigate as an enemy in the live persistent universe, mirroring what happened on the test servers.
It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow, considering that at 242 meters long, the Idris is one of the biggest ships in the game's universe. It's also the first capital warship with a fully modeled interior to appear in the game, albeit it's unlikely that it'll be available as a fully playable ship immediately.
Star Citizen is a crowdfunded game in active development exclusively for PC. At the moment of this writing, it has received $666,105,378 in funding with 5,094,196 registered users. As usual, it's worth mentioning that only a fraction of these are actually paying customers, as many create an account for the Free Fly events like the one that just concluded last week.
Yet, support for the game keeps growing. In 2023, it received over $117.5 million in pledges, marking the biggest year of its history and the sixth of consecutive growth.
