No Man's Sky Release

Sony's Paris Game Week Media Briefing has been showing off a lot of new games coming to the console. The livestreamed event contained a particularly nice surprise - the much-awaited title No Man's Sky (developed by Hello Games) has finally been given a PS4 release date of June, 2016. No one from Hello Games appeared onstage at the event prior to the showing of the trailer.

The trailer itself opens with a motif of a fleet of ships warping into a red-tinted asteroid field that is uncomfortably close to a nearby star. A few wildly different planets with varying environments, creatures, and structures are shown for a few seconds apiece. We are then treated to a group of space fighters engaging in combat over an absolutely massive capital ship slowboating towards a planet.

The player's ship is then shown breaking into the atmosphere of a planet named Shyinx. We're subsequently shown a short montage of both first person shooter and space fighter combat. This alone should partially alleviate the concerns of anyone who was wondering about what exactly players would be doing in the quintillions of planets contained in the galaxy of No Man's Sky. (TechRaptor's Robert Grosso wrote about some of the concerns of the lack of actual information and substantial gameplay shown thus far.)

This particular No Man's Sky trailer is a bit unique compared to the previous ones we've seen. This one has a little bit of everything. As short as it is, it's enough to give players a general idea of what they can expect from the title. Even with all we've seen, the few answers that we've been given are sure to spring a lot more questions. We're still not exactly sure what the player's primary motivation in the game is aside from a vague notion of moving towards the center of the galaxy. At least now we know what we'll be doing along the way.

I previously wrote about a presentation Sean Murray gave about No Man's Sky at the New Yorker Festival's Tech@Fest. A rumor floating around among the attendees was that Hello Games was going to announce a release date for No Man's Sky in Paris towards the end of the year. Looks like that particular rumor was right!

No Man's Sky is being billed as Playstation 4 Console Exclusive. It will be released on PC after an exclusive time period on Sony's console according to an interview Sean Murray did with EDGE Magazine (as reported by IGN).

Do you feel that No Man's Sky has shown enough of their gameplay to sell you on the game, or would you like to know more about it before you make your purchase? Let us know in the comments below!

Updated: According to GematsuNo Man's Sky should be releasing for PC and PS4 simultaneously.
