Sony has announced they will be expanding their PS Vue service to Android TV devices. They announced on PlayStation Blog that the Android TV app will be available today, and that Windows and Mac support is “coming soon”. Sony is also offering a one week trial for new Android TV users that sign up through the website, then link the account to the Android TV app.
Vue had already offered support for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Android phones/tablets, iOS devices, FireTV, and Roku. With Android TV Support, owners of devices such as the Nexus Player, Nvidia Shield TV, Mi Box, and Sony’s own SmartTV’s can now use the service. They did not give a definitive release date or window for Windows and Mac support. They did, however, promise that there would be new features, specifically calling out a “mini-player”. This feature will allow an active stream to be shrunk to one part of the screen. It was also not specified what form the service would take, such as an installable application or a service that can be streamed by a web browser.
PS Vue offers four tiers of service offering varying amount of content from cable and sports providers. It also supports streaming live broadcast stations for New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, and Miami.
