It's a weird year for new laptops. Just this month we're starting to see the new 7th generation "Kaby Lake" laptop models release from the major PC retailers like HP and Dell, but we won't see retailers switch their whole lineups over to 7th gen until next year in full. This has much to do with Intel releasing the mobile/productivity focused processors now and the heavy hitter gaming CPU's to launch in early 2017. What's the end results? Discounts are in order to move these new units and many of these are laptop deals under the $1,000 price point.

We're not sure where the logic is, but as the brand new 7th generation Kaby Lake laptops are releasing at HP and Dell they are accompanied by coupon discounts (e.g. on the popular HP Envy 15) that are actually pretty impressive for brand new PCs. We're seeing discounts as high as $500 off.

The biggest savings you can find is on the 17.3-inch HP Envy 17 model with a Core i7-7500U processor with 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a Geforce 940MX discrete graphics card. While the graphics aren't exactly the most high-end for gaming, it's unquestionably a fast booting media powerhouse for under $1,000 and $500 off the $1,500 list price. Impressive price drop right off the bat for a newly minted machine.

Want decent performance out of a thin-and-light laptop? Dell's 13-inch machines are great buys after coupon discounts. Both the XPS 13 along with the Dell Inspiron 13 2-in-1 are good picks at "similar" pricing of $734. One, of course, comes with a discrete GPU option in the form of a lower mid-range Radeon R7 M445, while the ultraportable XPS 13 is equipped with an Intel Iris and a 1080p "Infinity" display.

These discounts are only available for a limited time. HP discounts are only valid now through Sunday, October 30th. The coupons at Dell show as a limited time offer, and we expect them to expire by the end of the month. After that point, the savings are likely to revert to full price, so grab 'em while they're cheap - or if you have the time flexibility on your side, wait for eventual new promotions on Kaby Lake laptops during Black Friday.
