The W3D Smartphone is a phone specifically for mobile gaming. Snail announced their new gadget at E3. The release date is listed as September 29, 2015 on the Amazon pre-order listing and costs $399.99.

With mobile gaming revenue continuing to grow and many major publishers making mobile titles for their most popular franchises it seems safe to say that there is a market for a smartphone that’s geared towards gamers. Snail Mobile is capitalizing on this market with their W3D Smartphone. This phone breaks through some of the limitations of mobile devices to deliver a better gaming experience.

The phone will have a MTK6592 8-core CPU with 2.0GHz Processor. With 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM the smartphone is on par with the latest Android smartphone models. What really makes the W3D geared towards gaming are the physical button controls and dual joysticks. The 5.5” 1080p HD screen will also implement Snail’s glasses free 3D display technology which uses eye-tracking synchronization.

The W3D Smartphone is open source and can play games from any Google-based distribution platform. It will be fully compatible with touch screen Android games. Although players can customize games to use the phone’s button interface instead of touch controls.

Battery life for the W3D smartphone is reported to be a 10-16 hours on ideal standby but only 5-7 hours if you’re playing hardcore games.   The phone will have a 13 megapixel main camera and a 5 megapixel back camera. It will also have Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and LE transmission.

There are certainly some appealing features for gamers with the W3D smartphone, like the physical button interface and 3D display. With all the mobile games highlighted at E3 the W3D smartphone may be just the device to play them on. Snail's W3D smartphone is available un-locked for pre-order now on Amazon for $399.99. It will be interesting to see how the W3D compares to popular smartphones already established on the market.
