Apple to Replace some iPhone 6s Batteries

Published: November 21, 2016 11:47 AM /

Some of you iPhone 6s owners may have had a few instances where the phone randomly decides to shut itself down, a mechanical flaw that has since been confirmed by Apple. This bug occurs on a "small" number of devices after the battery hits 60%, which triggers the glitch that shuts the phone down.

If you've experienced these shutdowns (if you haven't, you have nothing to worry about), Apple urges you to contact their customer support to get the battery replaced by a new one that isn't affected by the random shutdowns. This only concerns iPhone 6s's manufactured in September and October of 2015.

Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.

If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device's serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.

Note that this service doesn't apply to network-branded iPhones. If you encountered this problem and already sent it in to be fixed prior to this announcement you can request a refund.

The website lists a couple of options consumers can take to have their faulty battery replaced by Apple. You can either go to a local authorized reseller, an Apple Store (which needs you to make an appointment with your Apple ID at the store of your choice) or contact Apple's customer support.

As mentioned before, the faulty batteries won't do any harm to you, your loved ones or, God forbid, itself. Could've been worse. You could've gotten a different, slightly more dangerous, flagship.
