Tabletop publisher WizKids has announced Star Trek: Missions, a brand-new card game featuring some of the most popular characters and settings from the Star Trek universe.

Star Trek games are pretty popular in their own right and have been around for decades. DRM-free retailer GOG recently celebrated the video games with some re-releases last week, but Star Trek also has some great tabletop games such as Fireside Games' challenging co-op board game Star Trek Panic. WizKids is no stranger to the Star Trek franchise, and now it's diving back in once again with a brand new release of a Star Trek card game.

What is Star Trek: Missions?

Star Trek: Missions is a fairly simple card game at first glance. All a player has to do is assemble the highest-scoring combo in their hand. Each turn, you'll discard one card and draw a replacement.

Seems easy enough, right? Well, the real challenge is that the cards themselves do not have any intrinsic value; rather, they're based off of the other cards on your hand. For example, the "Federation Under Siege" card gives you 6 points for each non-Federation card you have in your hand.

It looks like collecting the right combo will come down to a good mix of strategy and luck. A game of Star Trek: Missions requires 3-6 players and should take around 20 minutes to play through in total. The game will include 50 Galaxy Cards, 24 Mission Cards, a scorepad, and a rulebook.

When is the Star Trek: Missions Release Date?

The Star Trek: Missions release date is sometime in February 2022; thankfully, you won't have to wait too long to play this new Star Trek game with your friends.

You can pre-purchase Star Trek: Missions at a local retailer via WizKids for $19.99 or your regional equivalent. If you don't want to wait, you can tide yourself over with one of WizKids' other Star Trek games such as Star Trek Conflick in the Neutral Zone or Star Trek Galactic Enterprises.
