Today, Games Workshop releases a brand new animated video showcasing how a Space Marine -- the poster child and chief weapon of the God Emperor in Warhammer 40,000 -- receives their armor. Blessed and consecrated by the Tech-Priests of the mysterious Adeptus Mechanicus, the power armor of a Space Marine is truly a wonder to behold. Games Workshop gave TechRaptor a chance to check out the video ahead of its release, and we were totally blown away.
The new animated video allows fans of the war-torn 41st millennium to finally see for themselves what goes into the armoring process, which Games Workshop says "has never been officially documented." The video itself paints a simple but sacrosanct scene, as a nameless Space Marine steps up to the alter of the Adeptus Mechanicus to receive his armor. The video also houses tons of fun little nods to fans of the lore, from the fact that the Space Marine's pupils dilate as his backpack is connected (that's where all his stim injections are stored), to the wonderfully creepy, fluttering child-like Cherubim of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Along with these fun nods to the rich history of the Space Marines and their power armor, the sheer technical talent on display here is very impressive. Without a product to sell or a new game or show to tease, this video is purely for the fans. As Games Workshop stated, "We wanted to showcase what the Warhammer Animation Studio has been creating and the quality of their work, as well as delve a little deeper into the Space Marine lore, showing how they equip their iconic armour."
