Back on April Fool's Day, Games Workshop announced that Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann would be returning to their tabletop miniatures game. Shortly afterward, the company clarified that this was not an elaborate prank but an honest return of the Space Dwarves to the grimdark sci-fi universe. Now, the studio has released new details about this army's return, including a new box set that will include everything you need to start playing.
What is coming for Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann?
The announcement of the new Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann units came during this year's NOVA Open with an official YouTube video later uploaded to the official Warhammer channel. An official Warhammer Community post would go into greater detail about what was shown. First, they highlighted the Hekaton Land Fortress, a Heavy Support tank that can carry 12 models inside of it as well as its share of heavy artillery. Next, the post discusses several unique Space Dwarf units such as the Einhyr Champion, an exosuit wearing warriors that are living battering rams, the Brokhyr Iron Master which are battlefield repairmen accompanied by powerful robotic drones, and the Grimnyr wise sages with psychic power.
As part of this announcement, Games Workshop also confirmed that a Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann army box is on the way. The box will contain the following:
- 1 Uthar The Destined Named Unit
- 3 Hernkyn Pioneers
- 20 Hearthkyn Warriors
- 1 Leagues of Votann Codex With Alternate Artwork
That is right. If you pick up this army box, you'll also get a Leagues of Votann codex, containing all of the unique rules and mechanics needed to properly use this new army. The codex will also contain 50 data cards for easy reference as well as two transfer sheets filled with the symbols and logos of the major Leagues (the different factions of the Votann army). This codex will be sold separately down the line, but not with this same artwork.
When will the Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann army box be available?
According to Games Workshop's rough roadmap, the Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann army box will release shortly after the release of the new Chaos Daemon codex but before the revised codex of the Astra Militarum. This means that you may be seeing the Space Dwarves return to the battlefield as early as this September or as late as this November. There is currently no news regarding the army box's MSRP.
