Another day, another preview by Games Workshop. The tabletop publisher has been consistently providing fans of their grimdark sci-fi miniatures game glimpses of the changes coming to Warhammer 40k 10th Edition. This has included general rules like army lists and vehicles as well as army spotlights like Imperial Guard and World Eaters. Now, another army is getting some time to themselves. Specifically, the idealistic mech-suited empire that believes in the greater good... by any means necessary. This is the preview for the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Tau army.

The new changes coming to the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Tau army are showcased in an official Warhammer-Community post. First, there is the new army rule, For The Greater Good, which allows your units to team up and guide any attack made during the shooting phase. This can increase the unit's Ballistic Skill characteristic and even ignore cover. Following that is a new detachment rule, Kauyon, which emphasizes baiting the opponent before springing an ambush. The rule states that from the third battle round onwards, all ranged attacks have the Sustained Hits ability. Furthermore, it becomes more effective when paired with For The Greater Good.

Pathfinder units now control the drones. Have fun with that.

As for unit spotlights, the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Tau army does have some notable changes. All Drones are no longer individual models. They are now listed as wargear abilities for certain Tau units. The Drone's benefits can still be accessed, they're just on a certain unit's datasheet now. This means players no longer need to prioritize space, army size, or tactical cover to keep the benefits of certain drones, greatly streamlining the army's complexity.

Finally, the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Tau army preview ends with a look at a new Stratagem. The Tau are known for fluid tactical movement. If they need to make a retreat, they will. The new Stratagem, Combat Embarkation, leans into this. If one of your infantry and transports are targeted as part of an enemy Charge, the targeted unit can immediately embark on that transport, forcing the enemy to pick a new target. The only restriction is every model in your unit must be within 3" of the transport and there must be enough capacity to embark the entire unit.
