Games Workshop has released another preview for Warhammer 40k 10th Edition. The newest edition of the popular grimdark sci-fi war game has already had several elements of its design showcased in the past. Everything from how armies are made to how vehicles will work, to mission objectives have all received a highlight. Now, this latest preview will focus on one of the armies. This is a glimpse at the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines.

The Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines Preview

In an official Warhammer-Community post, Games Workshop highlighted changes coming to Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines. The first is new Army Rules. Every time any of your units are about to shoot or fight, they can take a Dark Pact, which can grant either Lethal Hits or Sustained Hits 1. But if you fail a Leadership test, the unit suffers mortal wounds, providing a risk/reward tactical option. The post then highlights the Legionaries units, the central unit of Chaos Space Marines, complete with customization options. Since the Chaos Space Marines just care about results and less about military command, this flexibility is in keeping with this approach.

Taken as a whole, this is one dangerous Leader.

The post then highlights a named character from the army: Abbadon The Despoiler. He has three powerful Aura abilities which apply to all units in range every turn, Paragon of Hatred allows units to reroll attacks while Mark of Chaos Ascendent gives units a 4+ invulnerable save, and Lord of the Traitor Legions lets you reroll Leadership and Battle-shock tests. Pair that with his Dark Destiny ability, which has you gain a Command Point every time you use a Dark Pact and pass your Leadership save, and Abbadon is a force to be reckoned with.

Finally, this preview of Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines briefly discussed a new army detachment. The Slaves to Darkness detachment is a faction that pushes making pacts with Chaos even further, granting access to more effective stratagems. One of these is Dark Obscuration, which grants units the Stealth ability. This becomes even more effective if it is a Nurgle unit, since it forces any attacker to be within 12".
