Fans of tabletop gaming might be familiar with the work of Stonemaier Games. They have published many beloved titles such as the ornithological - and wildly successful - Wingspan, as well as ongoing support for established properties like Tapestry. Now, it seems that the publisher is dusting off an older board game and giving it a new lease on life: Libertalia.

The announcement came from Stonemaier Games' official newsletter. The very first announcement in the newsletter is about a brand new, revised and streamlined version of Libertalia. This was a piracy board game released in 2012 where 2-6 players would command pirate crews and compete to see who can be the most ruthless pirate, pillaging ships and protecting your plunder in equal measure. Now, 10 years after the original release, Stonemaier Games and original designer Paolo Mori are announcing Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest. Essentially, this will be a new edition of the 2012 original game, but with the addition of fantastical sky ships. To quote the newsletter directly, "we’re celebrating the foundations of the original design with a heavily revised and expanded edition that includes all completely new art by Lamaro Smith, 40 characters per player, a reputation system to resolve tiebreakers, premium loot tokens, a robust solo mode, and much more."

But brand new rules and artwork isn't all Stonemaier Games wants to do with this new edition of Libertalia. While the game itself will not be available for pre-order until some time in March, there is a notification form provided by the newsletter. Furthermore, if you sign in to this pre-order notification form before February 14, Stonemaier Games will donate $1 to Sea Shepherd. Sea Shepherd is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of marine life as well as help protect the world's oceans from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction. In fact, the newsletter encourages readers to forward it to friends who might be interested in Libertalia itself, helping fund a good cause like marine life conservation, or both.

If you decide to wait however, Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest will be available for pre-order on March 2. If you are a Stonemaier Champion premium member, you will receive a 20% discount.
