Shinobi 7, a tabletop game developer & publisher, has announced Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers on a news post on their official website.

Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers is going to be a tabletop adaptation of the Internet's favorite blue hedgehog. The fastest thing alive has had a couple of forays into the world of tabletop, namely through a board game by Milton Bradley and a card game by Mattel, both released in 1992. Save for those two examples, there hasn't been much in the way of Sonic on the tabletop with the exception of the occasional fan-made game, and nothing since Sonic's 16bit era. That's all changing thanks to Shinobi 7.

Take on the role of the titular blue bomber Sonic and race around a track against your friends! Knuckles, Amy, Tails, and Dr. Eggman will also be available as playable characters. Expansions for the game will be made available which can add new characters to the game. The game will make use of cards & tokens on a variety of different race tracks, and the game's expansions will include additional race track pieces to let you mix things up a bit.

A Kickstarter for Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers will be launched in early February 2018 to raise funding for the game's production. The Kickstarter version of the game will feature limited edition items (as Kickstarters are wont to do). A retail version of the game will be heading to stores towards the end of 2018.

In company news, Shinobi 7 is now a subsidiary of Seven Seas Entertainment. Their other products Tokyo Ghoul: The Card Game and My Little Pony: Tales of Equestria will be available through Ninja Division Publishing through March 15, 2018. They've secured a deal with Diamond/Alliance which will see their games brought to a wider array of retail stores in the future - and Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers will soon be among those titles.
