Renegade Game Studios have announced an official American Psycho board game. Working on official licenses is something the publisher is familiar with given their recent years managing the World of Darkness property, and their recent tabletop game adaptations of multiple beloved Hasbro properties. As for how exactly the studio plans on adapting a 2000s dark horror movie, the studio did provide some details.
What Is The American Psycho Board Game?
According to an official press release, the American Psycho board game is a trick-taking game. Officially titled American Psycho: A Killer Game, players will take on the roles of yuppie investment bankers as they hold "meetings." During these meetings, all players will contribute a card usually of a matching suit. Whoever has the highest card wins. But, each game will have a "killer suit" which beats the leading suit. On top of that, a scene card is drawn during each meeting, based on actual events from the feature film, which adds additional complications to the game. Some of these complications include forcing players to draw Murder cards. Getting Murder cards to grant players negative points... that is unless you have the role of the Psycho in which case it's just how you do business. Given the themes of the film include a scathing criticism of 1980s ruthless corporate capitalism and shallow materialism overlapping with the detached nihilistic worldview of a serial killer, contextualizing the game as such is on point for an adaptation.
Each copy of the American Psycho board game will contain the following:
- 60 Suit Cards
- 12 Special Cards
- 16 Scene Cards
- 29 Murder Cards
- 1 Game Board
- 10 Game Tokens
- 5 Reference Cards
