Paramount Pictures have announced that more live-action D&D is coming. In addition to co-producing the upcoming D&D Honor Among Thieves feature film, Paramount will be partnering with eOne, Hasbro's film and television studio, to produce an eight-episode D&D TV series.

The D&D TV series announcement

The announcement of the D&D TV series came from a Deadline report. Much like the upcoming movie, this TV series will be co-produced and co-financed by Paramount and eOne. The series will debut exclusively on Paramount+ and the pilot episode will be written and directed by Rawson Marshal Thurber, the writer, director, and producer of the Netflix film Red Notice. This will be the second live-action adaptation of a gaming property on Paramount+, the first being their popular but contentious adaptation of Microsoft's sci-fi series Halo.

The report also explains that the D&D TV series has been a major focus for eOne's President of Global Television Michael Lombardo. The series has been tipped to be the studio's largest scope TV project ever, with the potential to begin its own shared universe across scripted and unscripted shows. Given the TTRPG's rich history of fantastical worlds, memorable characters, and heroic adventures, it is not outside the realm of possibility. As for which part of the D&D multiverse this TV series will take place, or who will make up the main cast, that has yet to be revealed.

The D&D TV series announcement comes shortly after a leak of the TTRPG's revised OGL. Despite a formal statement by developer Wizards of the Coast explaining that the amended terms would not affect third-party support for their widely popular game, the leaked document tells a different story. Not only does it impose greater restrictions on independent creators, but it also revokes a creative foundation that has been in place for over twenty years. This has led to a widespread loss of goodwill and trust in the eyes of the tabletop industry.
