If you are a fan of JRR Tolkien's influential Middle-earth adventures, you are likely aware of The One Ring TTRPG. The crowdfunding success story by developer Free League Publishing is beloved by fans for its authentic portrayal of the highly influential fantasy setting, adapting the rich lore and trappings of the world while allowing players to tell their own smaller stories. While our preview of the game does highlight how a TTRPG group can enjoy this world, Free League Publishing have announced another way for solo players to enjoy this experience: The One Ring Strider Mode.

What Is The One Ring Strider Mode?

According to an official press release by Free League Publishing, The One Ring Strider Mode contains rules for adventurers that wish to explore Middle-earth on their own. Named for the alias Aragorn traveled under during the events of Fellowship of the Ring, this mode presents additional rules as well as changes to the core rules, allowing players to freely explore the world. These rules include guidelines for solo players as well as additional tables meant to "incite and inspire your solitary wanderings across Middle-earth." This new solo mode was developed by Shawn Tompkins, whose work includes the solo RPG Ironsworn, as well as Matt Click, who assisted with the Ironsworn: Delve expansion. Considering that Ironsworn has won several Ennies back in 2019 for how it managed to produce both a co-op, guided, and solo TTRPG adventuring experience (all for free), having its developers make a communal game like The One Ring work solo is a sensible choice.

Where Can I Buy The One Ring Strider Mode?

There is no physical release for The One Ring Strider Mode. These rules will only be made available digitally. It is currently available for purchase right now on DriveThruRPG for $4.99. In comparison, The One Ring's Core Rulebook is available in PDF format for $24.99.
