A recent Kickstarter campaign for an upcoming Viking-themed board game has been insanely successful, accruing over $1 million in pledges. Mythic Battles: Ragnarök is a skirmish adventure game from the creators of the highly successful Batman: Gotham City Chronicles and is really hitting its stride on Kickstarter.
Mythic Battles: Ragnarök - A Veritable Viking Adventure
Monolith Board Games, the team behind games such as Conan and Claustrophobia 1643 has recently launched a brand-new project over at Kickstarter, and unsurprisingly it's currently incredibly successful. The title is a follow-up to Mythic Battles: Pantheon and sees players controlling a member of the Norse pantheon as the mythic, apocalyptic event of Ragnarök rages, and gods and mortals must battle it out to either save the 9 worlds or plunge them into eternal darkness. Complete missions with either a story-based spin or just a straight-up skirmish.
The crazy amount of success Mythic Battles: Ragnarök has seen, means that all but one of the game's stretch goals have already been reached. So far, 16 new miniature types have been added to the game, including famous characters from Norse mythology. Both Grendal and Grandal's Mother, from the famous Beowulf story, make an appearance, as well as a variety of creatures and monsters, like the Light Elves, the Draugr, and the Mimir. Also featured are various extra gods of the pantheon, with the final god left to unlock at $1150000 is Njord, god of the seas and fishing.
This Success Is Well-Earned
It's not hard to see why Mythic Battles: Ragnarök is doing so well. Monolith Board Games have a history of producing some high-quality games, not to mention the fact that this is a follow-up to another game of god-like battling. These elements align perfectly with the addition of Norse mythology to make one insanely successful crowdfunding campaign.
