Spoilers for the seventy-fourth Magic: The Gathering set, Amonkhet, have slowly begun surfacing from Wizards of the Coast and affiliated preview outlets. Among these spoilers include the Amonkhet Invocations, the next line of the Masterpiece Series premium product line, which began with Zendikar Expeditions and became a set staple with Kaladesh Inventions. Each iteration of the Masterpiece Series has a specific theme - Zendikar Expeditions focused on lands, Kaladesh Inventions focused on artifacts, and it appears that the Amonkhet Invocations will focus on counter, destruction, and exile spells.
The Amonkhet Invocations will feature the following cards in Amonkhet:
Responses from the Magic: The Gathering community to the newest iteration of the Masterpiece Series has been overwhelmingly negative, with many feeling that the cards do not feel like they're Magic: The Gathering cards, but rather cards from a completely different game. In addition, they cite the hard-to-read text and mana costs as potential concerns for new players unfamiliar with the cards original printings. Further complicating matters is an admission from Magic: The Gathering's Senior Design Director Aaron Forsythe stating the controversial design of the Amonkhet Invocations was a deliberate choice.

Quick Take
These cards make the unconfirmed Dusk // Dawn card look golden in comparison. I was fine with the borders for Zendikar Expeditions and Kaladesh Inventions, but these borders make the artwork look so small and non-important; furthermore, the font makes the card name nearly unreadable without having to seriously look at the card, and the mana costs blend completely into the borders. Deliberate design choice or not, someone should have voiced stronger concerns to these designs before they made it to the printing press. What are your thoughts on the Amonkhet Invocations?
