Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 Is Breaking Kickstarter Records

Earlier today we wrote about the new Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 Kickstarter in a crowdfunding spotlight article, looking at the project and short mini-interview with the developer of the game Adam Poots. What we didn't know at that point, that we have found out now, is exactly how insanely successful the Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 Kickstarter is, as it has broken some records already.

It took Kingdom Death: Monster less than 20 minutes to break its first record, that being the quickest project to raise $1 million on Kickstarter. In just 19 minutes, the game had already been pledged to that level, which was more than twice as fast as Pebble Time, the previous record holder, which took 49 minutes to hit $1 million. The first day continued to be ground shaking, with $4.3 million raised in the first 24-hours it was the third fastest 24 hours ever on Kickstarter, and the fastest for any gaming project. Only the second and third Pebble Kickstarters managed to do more in their first 24 hours on Kickstarter.

As of right now, Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 has raised over $5.2 million from over 11,500 backers. That speed was again near record setting to cross the $5 million mark, as only the two aforementioned Pebble projects managed to do it faster, and no gaming project ever had. Additionally, with 40 days to go, Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 is already the third-most crowdfunded tabletop project ever, topped only by Steamforged Games Dark Souls - The Board Game and Exploding Kittens, which was notably worked on by Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal. The first Kingdom Death: Monster Kickstarter, which raised $2,049,721 from 5,410 backers, ranked a humble 15th before the new one bumped it down to 16th. The new Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 campaign has easily well over doubled those numbers already.

Quick Take

While I've never played it, it is pretty amazing how well Kingdom Death is doing on Kickstarter right now, with it being easily on track to crush Dark Souls and Exploding Kittens. It's a very pricey Kickstarter, but that doesn't seem to be inhibiting its insane pledging level. It may be the definitive example of how delivering a great product once and fulfilling any and all expectations can lead to greater success in the future.
