Several months ago tabletop game developer Prospero Hall announced a Jurassic World board game was coming to Kickstarter. Officially titled Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar, the game was planned to include narrative campaigns taking players through the events of the five films in the franchise all while giving them the opportunity to build and manage their own dinosaur theme park. Now, after months of anticipation (and box art teases) the game's crowdfunding campaign has gone live on Kickstarter.
In the official press release, the Jurassic World board game will include the following. There will be 12 story scenarios that include not just plots from the movies but situations set between them to flesh out the world. Each of these scenarios are 1-2 hours long. These will even include a spoiler-free ending for those waiting for the next film, Jurassic World: Dominion, slated to release in theaters June 2022.
Furthermore, players will unlock 12 unique species of dinosaur to oversee as well as 21 new and familiar characters to help. Each of these characters have unique abilities and knowledge, as well as unique powers and skills that slowly unlock as your campaign advances. Either way, how you choose to build your version of Jurassic Park, as well as the consequences of those building choices, are for you and your players to discover for yourselves.
“This is the biggest and most ambitious project we have undertaken as a board game studio and it seems only fitting it is rooted in one of the most epic franchises of all time – Jurassic World,” said Deirdre Cross, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Development at Funko Games. “We continue to push the envelope for what’s possible with licensed games, and Universal has always been an enthusiastic partner. Now after two years of creative development, we can’t wait to bring Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar to fans of tabletop gaming, legacy gaming and Jurassic World.”
If you are curious as to what exactly the Jurassic World board game entails, Prospero Hall has plenty of information on their Kickstarter page. There are multiple videos including a First Look, a gameplay preview if you're curious as to how it plays, and even an unboxing video. If you've been waiting for your chance to pledge or are still on the fence and need to see more, head on over to the page and see what Prospero Hall has to offer. Considering the developer's track record includes very well-received adaptations of Disney's The Rocketeer and the asymmetric board game Villainous, Prospero Hall has a history of sparing no expense for quality.
Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar is expected to ship out to backers in Fall of 2022.
