Innistrad Crimson Vow

We've been given the opportunity to partner with Wizards of the Coast to reveal one of the cards from the upcoming Innistrad: Crimson Vow expansion. Having read a number of preview articles over the years (I started playing with Onslaught), I have some thoughts to share about the preview card and how it fits into Innistrad: Crimson Vow, but let's get to what you want to see.

Let me introduce you to Hallowed Haunting:

Hallowed Haunting

Hallowed Haunting 2WW

Enchantment

As long as you control seven or more enchantments, creatures you control have flying and vigilance.

Whenever you cast an enchantment spell, create a white Spirit Cleric creature token with "This creature's power and toughness are each equal to the number of spirits you control."

Based on what we already saw in the Innistrad: Crimson Vow reveal yesterday, we know that spirits are going to be tied with enchantments in Innistrad: Crimson Vow. The new take on Disturb has spirits coming back as enchantments, and we've seen several other signs along that way.in the early reveals. Hallowed Haunting takes advantage of the number of enchantments you have, which you get from spirits who have died earlier in the game, and gets you another creature.

It's unlikely that we'll see Hallowed Haunting making any waves in constructed formats as the threshold of seven enchantments for flying and vigilance, and the 4 mana cost with nothing done right away, is too slow. That said, it appears to be a strong card in a W/U spirit deck in limited, as it provides a lot of value. It also seems like a card that will be fun in Commander and other Casual formats. One example of a card that would play well with it is Drogskil Infantry, which was revealed yesterday.

Drogskol

On the front side you'd have an early beater, and once you have Hallowed Haunting down, it will eventually get to come back as an aura giving +2/+2 to a creature, and create a Cleric Spirit to continue putting pressure. Do note though that you need a creature to target separately - you can't target the spirit created by Hallowed Haunting.

Innistrad: Crimson Vow is looking like an interesting set, and I look forward to seeing everything else to be revealed before its release!
