Back in 1982, Sir Ian Livingstone produced a Judge Dredd board game. Officially titled Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime Fighting In Mega-City One, the game was seen as a board game classic. Given that Livingstone's career highlights include being the co-founder of Games Workshop, the company most well-known for the Warhammer 40k franchise, it is praise that is well-placed. Now, a brand new edition of the board game will be coming out soon with more revised rules as well as a brand new expansion.
What is in the new edition of the Judge Dredd board game?
The announcement of this new edition of the Judge Dredd board game came from a news post on Rebellion Unplugged's website. The core of the game will remain unchanged. You play as Judges in the dystopian far future, patrolling the streets with a zero-tolerance policy for crime. Whether it is littering or murder, if a Judge catches you you're dead. But you are also competing with your fellow Judges, racing to show that you are the very embodiment of justice in this dark world, and you're not afraid to actively sabotage them to make it happen.
As for what changes are coming to the Judge Dredd board game, there are a few. First, there will be revised rules and updated action cards to allow for accessible and faster play. The game's artwork will be getting an overhaul courtesy of comic artists Brian Bolland and Ian Gibson. Finally, the game will include a brand new Specialist Judges expansion, which will introduce six new playable Judges such as Mechanismo, the Psi Judge, and the Special Judicial Squad.
When it came to his Judge Dredd board game returning, Livingstone had this to say:
I’m thrilled that Rebellion Unplugged is publishing my Judge Dredd board game. It’s 40 years since players first had the chance to drive around Mega-City One to arrest the Angel Gang, Judge Death and other perps for their various crimes. The additional rules, action cards and recoloured art combine to make the new edition a game that I hope every Dredd fan will want to play.
When will the new edition of the Judge Dredd board game be available?
This new edition of the Judge Dredd board game will be coming out November 14. It is available for pre-order right now on Rebellion's webstore at an MSRP of $45.
