Fans of tabletop war games have been anticipating any news regarding Games Workshop's latest projects. Between the release of the new codex for Warhammer 40k's Tyranids and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar's Arena of Shades battlebox, the company also made several announcements during AdeptiCon. These announcements included a brand new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Now, ahead of their upcoming Warhammer Fest, Games Workshop have teased screenshots of a Horus Heresy boxed set.
The teased image of the Horus Heresy boxed set came from a Warhammer Community tweet. There is no name associated with the boxed set and the tweet contains a single image. That image shows a spread of era-appropriate Space Marines, beak masks and all, squaring off against the heretics. The tweet itself does confirm that the miniatures shown are from a new boxed set. "It includes a whopping 40 Mark VI Space Marines, a plastic Spartan, and more. We'll have a closer look at the Contemptor Dreadnought tomorrow and even more at Warhammer Fest."
For those not aware, Warhammer Fest is Games Workshop's online convention. It is four straight days of big announcements and releases for their most popular franchises including Warhammer and its many spin-offs like Necromunda, War Cry, and Kill Teams. In an official Warhammer Community post, Games Workshop stated that Warhammer Fest will start on Wednesday, May 4th, and conclude on Saturday, May 7th. A schedule was even included, highlighting what the focus of each day will be. According to this schedule, it seems any future details about the newest Horus Heresy boxed set will be discussed on Saturday, May 7th.
The Horus Heresy is a crucial part of the lore of Warhammer 40k. Taking place over 10,000 years ago, it was a bloody war packed with misinformation, betrayal, schisms, and the death of countless trillions that spanned nine years. It lead to the creation of the Imperium of Man as the cautionary tale of zealous authoritarianism as it stands now and the reason why the Space Marines were broken apart into multiple chapters.
