It seems the lead of one of the most enduring tabletop studios is setting out in their own direction.
In a press release, Andrew Navaro, the former Head of Studio at Fantasy Flight Games, has announced he would be founding his very own tabletop gaming studio. This is huge considering Navaro's work includes several major and critically acclaimed board games including Arkham Horror The Card Game and Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth.
To quote, "The new studio, Earthborne Games, will publish games featuring original, captivating worlds paired with theme-forward designs that imagine a hopeful future both for humanity and for the Earth. In that same spirit, Earthborne Games products will be produced and manufactured as sustainably as possible. Earthborne Games will collaborate with environmentally-conscious manufacturing partners to examine and improve all aspects of tabletop game production from raw material sourcing to shipping and fulfillment."
Thankfully, Navaro isn't completely alone when it comes to starting up this studio. Several other developers who have worked on everything from Star Wars to Warhammer 40,000 to Arkham Horror to Legend of the Five Rings are joining the team as well.
Finally, Earthborne Games already has an official page where they have announced their first project. The game is called Earthborne Rangers and is described as a co-op card game set in the wilderness of the far future. Not much detail is given other than a Kickstarter campaign for the game will happen sometime this Summer. If you are interested in staying updated on the project and this new studio, the site does include the ability to sign-up for a newsletter, and stay tuned to TechRaptor.
As for Earthborne Games itself, it's good to see so much veteran talent and immediate professionalism regarding its announcement. As for how this studio will maintain environmentally friendly manufacturing and production practices, only time will tell.
