Star Wars fans and board game fans are about to have something new to enjoy. The ubiquitous sci-fi universe has seen many different adaptations over the years. Recently, these have ranged from TTRPGs like Edge of the Empire to miniatures games like Star Wars Shatterpoint, to smaller card game experiences like Jabba's Palace. Now, Fantasy Flight Games have announced Star Wars: Unlimited, a brand new trading card game.

The Star Wars: Unlimited announcement

According to an official press release, Fantasy Flight Games will be partnering with Lucasfilm Ltd. to develop Star Wars: Unlimited. It will feature iconic characters, weapons, starships, and locations from throughout the various films in the franchise, as well as videogames, TV shows, comics, and everything in between. Not only will all of this iconography be present in brand-new artwork, but the game will also contain alternate cards with special treatments and variant designs. As the title implies, this will be a Star Wars game with unlimited possibilities.

But incorporating elements from the galaxy far far away is just one part of Star Wars: Unlimited. The press release states the gameplay will be fast-paced and dynamic while also being easy to learn. In terms of development and polish, Fantasy Flight also states the game's development has been underway for three years. Part of this has been iteration and polish, as well as managing a release schedule of one new set per year. Furthermore, Organized Play has been designed from the very beginning and will be ready on day one.

Star Wars: Unlimited is the culmination of FFG’s rich history mixed with the celebrated Star Wars brand. As a studio, we are putting unprecedented resources across every department into this game. We could not be more excited to get this out into the world for everyone to experience,” says Chris Gerber, Fantasy Flight Games Head of Studio. “We can’t wait to show you more.”

This is not the first time Fantasy Flight Games has adapted this beloved property. In addition to several adaptations like Star Wars: Outer Rim, as well as Star Wars: Destiny, the company also released the Star Wars Deckbuilding Game earlier this year. which focused on characters from the original trilogy. It also, according to our own review, "brings a refreshing spin to the genre."

Star Wars: Unlimited will launch globally in 2024.
