Publisher Everything Epic Games and designer Ben Kanalos have announced the development of a brand new type of board game experience based in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe. Vampire: The Masquerade - Blood Feud is an upcoming 'mega-board game' based on the concept of MegaGames, a style of huge game played by 100s of players over several weeks and throughout different locations. Everything Epic and Ben Kanalos have decided to bring Mega Games to the realm of boardgames by presenting a streamlined version which is easier to run in a standard board game group.
Blood Feud is a thematic strategy game for between 4-32 players, controlled by either 1 or 2 story masters who also take part similarly to many tabletop RPG's. The players must pick from a faction of either humans or vampires and win the game by earning victory points based on the events of the game. Blood Feud is played across two separate tables with there own board and rules. The first table covered the map of the city the game is set in, where players move their forces and maintain control of their territories. The other table features the council, the space for diplomacy, deceit and shrewd dealing to fight to the top of the political ladder amongst the different factions.
Ben Kanalos himself has had experience designing games with Vampires in mind. One of his previous titles, Bitten, features zombies, werewolves and vampires vying to take over a city during nightfall. While he hasn't designed a mega-style board game before, partially because no one has attempted to combine the two before, his games have a track record of scoring high with users over on Board Game Geek. Time will tell if this interesting experiment bears any fruit.
The large scale board game will be making its way to Kickstarter later this year in June 2019.
