A new game studio is making its tabletop debut. But this studio aren't completely new to interactive entertainment. They are former indie videogame developers known for scientific puzzle games. Their first project is on-brand: a card game simply called Chemistry Set.
The Chemistry Set Card Game Announcement
The announcement of the Chemistry Set card game came via media post on Blue Sky. The post describes the game itself: a two-player competitive experience about building molecules out of atoms.
Developer Coincidence Games' web page contains additional information about the game and studio. First, it specifies that Chemistry Set is not an educational experience. You don't need any knowledge of chemistry whatsoever to enjoy this card game.
As for the developers, they are all former devs of Zachtronics LLC, an indie videogame developer. The founder, Zach Barth, is the lead designer on Chemistry Set.
With this in mind, it makes sense that Coincidence Games' first title revolves around science-based puzzle solving.
Zachtronics' body of work includes 2011's SpaceChem, a game about synthesizing chemicals in a reactor, the 2015 sandbox game Infinifactory the 2017 industrial engine-building game Opus Magnum, and retro-tech puzzle anthology game Last Call BBS.
Zachtronics last game released in 2022. Since then, the studio has been inactive. However, Barth has made the entire studios' library free to all schools and non-profit educational institutions.
Chemistry Set will be releasing alongside another card game by Coincidence Games. The second game, The Lucky Seven, is a tactical solitaire game framed as an unknown modern conflict.
Players will move and place squad members to neutralize threat cards and attempt to keep the peace. Much like Solitaire, the game will have different outcomes depending on the luck of the draw.
Both The Lucky Seven and Chemistry Set are available for pre-order right now. The Lucky Seven is available at an MSRP of $11.99. Chemistry Set is available at an MSRPG of $12. Finally, both are available in a bundle for $23.99
