Earlier today, Sony revealed three products in its new Z3 series of devices at the IFA show in Berlin, Germany. A 4.6'' compact smartphone is the smallest addition to the series, while Sony Mobile's chosen flagship model is the larger 5.2'' Xperia Z3; the 8'' Z3 compact Android tablet rounds out the series.
Sony states that the new devices will launch globally in select territories this Autumn, however, currently, only the 5.2'' Xperia Z3 will be making its way stateside. The flagship phone will be launching on T-Mobile's network in the United States, "around" the same time as the European launch. This means we could see the device incorporated into T-Mobile's lineup as early as this November.
Particularly of interest to gamers is the PS4 remote play functionality included on all three devices. Sony Mobile's product page states that remote play will be available starting in November, and will require a Dual Shock 4 controller for play.
The Xperia Z3 could prove to be an ideal solution for PlayStation 4 owners looking to take advantage of remote play without the often cumbersome control limitations of the Vita. It is likewise noteworthy that the 5.2'' model offers a slightly larger screen than the Vita, and supports a full 1920x1080 resolution, although the PS4's built-in h.264 video encoder compresses images to a lower resolution for streaming.
