The upcoming Guerrilla Collective event has been postponed for a week. Said event was originally due to take place from June 6th-8th. It'll now happen on June 13th-15th instead. This delay relates to the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by a white police officer on May 25th. The killing has sparked outrage around the world, but particularly in the United States.
News of the postponement comes via Guerrilla Collective's official Twitter account. In a tweet posted earlier today, Guerrilla Collective says that the event is a "cumulative effort of incredibly diverse teams" which aim to bring hope and positive content to the world. The tweet goes on to explicitly express Guerrilla Collective's support for the Black Lives Matter movement and for "voices speaking out for justice and change".
What's next for Guerrilla Collective?
As per the tweet, Guerrilla Collective is preparing a livestream for June 7th. This livestream will highlight not only Black voices within the gaming industry but also games crafted by Black developers and titles featuring Black main characters. Guerrilla Collective also says there will be "conversations" with these creators. More information will be available regarding that livestream shortly, so be sure to keep an eye on the Guerrilla Collective Twitter account. The original Collective event will take place from June 13th-June 15th and will feature content from developers and publishers like 11 bit studios, Sega, and Larian.
This is the latest in a string of gaming industry events that have been postponed to show solidarity with the ongoing protests. The PC Gaming Show and Future Gaming Show have both been postponed for a week. Sony has indefinitely postponed its PlayStation 5 "Future of Gaming" event, while upcoming content seasons for Call of Duty and Fortnite have also been held back. In addition, several prominent forces within the gaming industry are making donations to Black causes and charities, including Humble Bundle and Contigo Games.
