Senran Kagura as a franchise has had many different forms, whether it is 2.5D brawler (Senran Kagura Burst), musou-like 3D brawler (Shinovi Versus, Estival Versus), or even a rhythm game. The next genre that the titillating series aims to tackle is now the Third-Person shooter with Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash, so how does it hold up? During our appointment with XSEED, we found out.
The first thing to note about Peach Beach Splash is that, although it's a shooter, expect the same Senran Kagura nonsense that you've come to expect from the series. Instead of machine guns, shotguns, and snipers, you attack by using the water gun equivalents. At the bottom of the screen you have a meter showing how much water you have loaded, and shooting your gun, dashing, and flying through the air all consume water from this meter. You can reload at any time (even in mid-air!), and it's easy to liken the game to something like Vanquish, when you're dashing through the map at high speeds. You can choose to either lock-on to or manually aim at targets, but regardless of your choice, it's more effective to dash in and out of combat instead of trying to plant yourself in one place and try to attack any of the opposing team's ninja's.
When you KO an opposing ninja, you get the option of using a rubber duck squirt gun to deal the finishing blow to an opponents bikini, aiming at your desired piece of underwear and letting loose with all that your duck is worth until the fabric flashes off in typical Senran fashion. Players have access to a set of power-ups that they can activate during a match, not unlike the burn-cards from the original Titanfall, but for the most part the gameplay is a relatively simple affair of dashing around the water-filled locales and shooting enemies with water.
Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash releases later this year, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
