Shoestring Gaming - Summer sales and some midweek sale madness

Gaming article by Andrew Stretch on Thursday, June 4, 2015 - 11:00

Welcome to another week of Shoestring Gaming, the weekly segment where we look across the Internet and find some fun and relevant deals so that you can keep playing new games but also stay in your budget. This week we have deals from GoG and Steam for you to take a look at.

GoG Summer Sale 2015
Fantastic sales for a full 18 days, be sure to check back a lot!

First up is a big one as GoG has started their summer sale boasting up to 90% off deals for single games as well as bundle deals. The way that this summer sale works is that new deals will be added to the front page of GoG twice a day, giving you plenty of opportunities to find a game that takes your fancy. On top of all of the rotating great deals, depending on how much you spend you will also get a free copy of Sim City 2000, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and Xenonauts if you send $1, $20 or $5 respectively. The best part of this day is that it is going to last up until June 21st at 11:59 a.m. GMT giving you a whole 17 days as of this article to score some fantastic deals.

All the odd you need and it's all in one place, pick this up soon cause it won't last long!

Over at Steam there is a fantastic discount on the original Oddworld games in the Oddboxx that includes, Abe's Oddysee, Abe's Exodus, Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath as well as a separate sale on Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, the HD remake of Abe's Oddysee. Across these games experience all the tales of the strange planet Oddworld and the evil Glukkon race. The first three games, and the remake, are all puzzle-based in nature having you move through the world attempting to save as many different Mudokon from being turned into mincemeat, literally. Stranger's Wrath has you play as a bounty hunter called Stranger, and in a mix of first and third person perspectives, you travel around collecting bounties. The sales on these games will end on the 5th of June so be sure to grab them early if you want a good discount.

Lastly, with a new month it meant that there are plenty of new free games for subscribers of Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus services on their respective consoles. Games with Gold titles for June have been announced and are available giving Xbox gamers three new games; PlayStation Plus member can pick up all of their free games across all PlayStation platforms.

What do you think of this weeks deals? Are you planning on picking any of these up? Are there any other big deals that I have missed?

I have been playing all kinds of games for as long as I can remember with a particular interest in action adventure and platforming titles. While I am primarily an Xbox gamer I also spend a fair bit of time on the PS4 and on my PC in VR.
