The cult following has long awaited and begged for a sequel to Zero Escape: Virtue's Last reward, and the wait for knowledge on whether or not it will actually be made is over. Zero Escape Volume 3 has been announced and will be available on the Nintendo 3DS and Playstation Vita.

The release date has yet to have been announced but the video above from Anime Expo shows that we should be seeing Zero Escape Volume 3 Summer of 2016.

This comes after news in February of 2014 that the sequel to Virtue's Last Reward was indefinitely put on hold. Kōtarō Uchikoshi, the director of the series, announced that a sequel to the game was in the works as early as September of 2012, a full month before Virtue's Last Reward released in North America. The trying times of fans are over, and there is no longer any doubt the game will be seen. Expect more details in the coming months.

The Zero Escape series is a visual novel adventure with an emphasis on Escape (puzzle solving), featuring multiple endings and one true ending. Often, it is near impossible to get the true ending without first figuring out some things from the other endings of the game first. So, in essence, part of the gameplay comes from figuring out the story for yourself as well. Check out this article on the first game of the series—Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999)— to learn a bit more on how the series works.

Details on the story and where it takes place have yet to be released, but those that have played Virtue's Last Reward can likely make the assumption that the story will pick up soon after where that game ended.

Are you excited that the wait in limbo is finally over? Have you played any of the games in the series before (if not, check out the article linked to above to get a good idea of what you would be getting into)?
